Dream big, love more, mentor early - advice from a #GIBSGirl
GIBS Grooming welcomes Gabrielle Davis to the team!
“Size matters, so keep your dreams big and your worries small.” Gabrielle Davis is the youngest of seven kids and now has three of her own. The new GIBS Grooming educator and Sport Clips Area Manager completed beauty school with a bun in the oven and her oldest had a trach tube in his neck until he was four. Obstacles are nothing: Gab’s got the dreams to worry ratio down. Meet our Jacksonville, Florida #GIBSGirl:
Who is Gabrielle in five words? Passionate, motivated, persistent, honest and driven!
You made it to Team GIBS. What’s your secret? There’s no secret to success but the golden KEY in this industry is to Keep Educating Yourself. Put in the work and trust the process!
What should we know about you? I’m a hippie at heart! More peace, more love and all the happiness! (Check out her Instagram feed for a monochromatic mix of motivational quotes and super clean styles!)
What’s your game? Precision haircutting.
Favorite GIBS product? Con Man Hair Pudding, because I can use it on EVERYONE, even myself. I use Con Man when I’m cutting with scissors to help with precise sectioning, as well as combing through the hair. I also use it before blow drying every client (hair and beard); it helps keep the frizz away and is a good foundation before applying any of our Gibs products!
Any tips for aspiring barbers/stylists coming up in the game? Find a mentor early on. We all got help from someone! Also, understand that this is a craft that’s developed with time and you WILL get better every day you practice! The most important part is education, education and more education!
What’s it like being one of the women behind a rockstar men’s grooming brand? I love it! It definitely brings a different dynamic and perspective to the table being one of the women amongst a team of many men. At times I have to remind them that (lol) because they really treat me as an equal part of the team and value me just as much as I value them! They’re like my brothers: they look out for me, help me and mess with me! I believe that the best teams become family.
What makes a great barber/stylist? Being selfless, this is a giving industry! The best hairdressers I know are always giving to their clients as well as the people around them. Whether it’s knowledge, time or an experience!
Tell us more! I always knew I wanted do hair I just didn’t know to what capacity. I was a teenage parent twice and basketball was my first love. I still try to play as much as I can. I’ve lived all over the country and love to travel!
